How to Deal with Realtors

If you're selling your home with homeFree, you chose us to save commissions, keep control of the sale and make your real estate experience better. Don’t let a realtor convince you otherwise! Even if you are using homeFree you may still encounter real estate agents who will want to work with you. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Be clear that you're selling your home privately: When speaking with a real estate agent, make sure you let them know upfront that you're selling your home privately with homeFree and you're not interested in working with a realtor.
  2. Politely decline their services: You can explain that you're selling your home on your own and you're not interested in working with an agent at this time.
  3. Don't sign any contracts: If a realtor tries to pressure you into signing a contract, don't do it. You're not obligated to work with a realtor if you don't want to, and signing a contract will force you to pay a commission.
  4. Be professional and courteous: Remember that real estate agents are just doing what they have been trained to do; sign you into a listing contract. Don't let them, but be professional and courteous when telling them no, and hopefully they'll return the courtesy.

What if a realtor says they can get me more money?

If a realtor tells you that they can get you more money for your home than you could get on your own, it's important to remember that they're likely trying to convince you to sign a listing agreement. Don't do it! Once you sign a contract, even if the buyer comes from homeFree, the agent can come after you for commissions. Don't give up control of the sale by signing with a realtor, there's a reason you chose homeFree, it makes the most sense to see it through.

What if a realtor says I need a real estate agent to help set my asking price?

An agent’s "Free Evaluation" is not free when they charge you an average of $19,000 in commissions. homeFree offers an AI tool, which you can use in conjunction with doing a few minutes of market research on your own. Additionally, homeFree works with a preferred Licensed Appraisal firm who can give you a true, unbiased appraisal of your home for only $197+gst!

A realtor said I might make a mistake on the contract and potentially lose my home... is this true?

Whether you sell through a real estate agent or homeFree, a lawyer is the professional who looks after the entire transaction. The homeFree Offer to Purchase is simple and easy to understand. Additionally, homeFree clients have the benefit of FREE legal review of their contract by our preferred lawyer. It's called the Worry-Free Offer to Purchase Program. It's FREE, and it's exclusive to homeFree!

A realtor told me they had a potential buyer for my home... What do I do?

You do not need to sign a listing contract to have a realtor bring you a potential buyer. If a buyer chooses to have an agent work with them, it only makes sense to have them pay the agent.
